2024 was one of the toughest years for hospitality - rising costs, shifting customer behaviours and a market that feels like it is fighting to stay alive. Despite the chaos, new players have been popping up everywhere. While many have stumbled in this tough climate, a select few have pushed through the noise with bold, innovative ideas and a creative marketing approach that is setting them apart.
The list of 2025 was particularly difficult to finalise because it is not just about surviving/profitability but more about thriving and innovating. It is about the establishments that have not only survived but have redefined what it means to be a cafe in Auckland.
While the list is not in a particular order, the final five cafes at the end of this list represent the best five; these five truly exemplify the best of Auckland's cafe scene.
